I love brownies, but I've never been able to ignore the threat of obesity to be able to enjoy them as much as I should. I'm vain enough, and honest enough, to admit that while I consumed brownies once or twice a year like a relapsed crack addict, I always felt super guilty about it afterwards. So imagine my joy when I came across a book that not only taught me how to make them, but specifically how to make them in such a way that I wouldn't have to hide my habit or feel bad for indulging afterwards. I have no idea what gluten and sugar free brownies does to a person trying to lose weight, but it has to be good right? Not really, but anything with `free' stuck on the end automatically promotes health and wellness. There's one recipe in the book that talks about calorie free brownies, and I did know what that meant in terms of my diet. Suffice is to say that this knowledge pleased me greatly. Not only does Jane Ellis include healthy chocolate brownie recipes in her book, she also includes banana brownies (which is new to me), almond butter brownies, chocolate syrup brownies, almond macaroon brownies, and much more. Usually, in my world brownies came in one of two versions. Chocolate and chocolate. So in the end, those other recipe suggestions were a nice splash of diversity for me.
