Solo Chef: Recipes, Tips, Advice and Encouragement for Single Cooks Review

I just got this book today, and I already like it. Betty seems to know singles very well. In addition to giving over 120 recipes, she talks about lifestyle habits, nutrition, how to stock your kitchen, what to do with leftovers, and tips for cooking for company. She also gives clever commentaries that strongly appeal to singles. I find myself smiling a lot as I flip through the book. Something else that I absolutely love is that she knows that singles who get a book like this are not very experienced in the kitchen. So she talks about whether or not a certain ingredient is hard to find, which pots and pans are best to use with certain recipes, and even how to do things like skin a tomato. Also, the book was printed in Canada, but both English and Metric units are given for everything (ounces and grams, teaspoons and mL, Celsius and Fahrenheit, etc.) I'm really looking forward to using this book to get in the habit of cooking for myself.
The only minor setback is that the book is outdated for standard microwave power listings. But she gives the specific powers she refers to, so you can just do the math and figure out how that corresponds to your specific microwave. (Lots of microwaves are different, anyway.)Since amazon doesn't give much of a description of the book, here's what the back cover says. I also uploaded a couple of customer images, one of them being the back cover:
For single cooks--those just starting out or the newly single--the greatest challenge can be just getting themselves into the kitchen. And most want to be out of there with a meal in less time than it takes to say "take out."
More than a cookbook, "Solo Chef" inspires single cooks to meet this challenge with a flair. Author Betty Jane Wylie first surveys motivation, lifestyle, and plan of attack from a single cook's point of view, and then introduces her practical collection of recipes and advice. Wylie Knows that when it comes to cooking solo, there are few rules and that's just fine. Instead of rules, she encourages cooks to be creative and have fun, and gives them lots of ideas on how to do it.
-Packed with suggestions on what to stick for quick meals
-Over 120 easy recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus dozens more tips to help use up everything from the biggest cauliflower to that bottomless bottle of tahini
-Creative ideas for leftovers that keep food appetizing the second (or third or fourth!) time around
Betty Jane Wylie has been happily soloing in her kitchen for many years. During that time she has also produced 30 books, plus award-winning radio, TV and stage scripts. Titles include "Successfully Single," "Everywoman's Money Book," "Reading Between the Lines: The Diaries of Women", and "Encore: The Leftovers Cookbook." Betty Jane Wylie lives in MacTier, Ontario.
