One Bowl: Simple Healthy Recipes for One Review

There are several factors that have kept me from being a regular-basis cook. One is the tiny sliver of counter space, usually taken up by mail, keys and iPods. Another is the plethora of better-tasting delivery options within easy proximity. Lack of organization, time, know-how, motivation, confidence, and a dishwasher have also played their part.
However, this year, determined to eat better, save some money, and impress my boyfriend, I have embarked on a quest to at least slightly improve my culinary prowess. I've purchased a few cookbooks and gotten some as gifts. Many of them seem to assume that I can keep track of 20 ingredients, have 4 pots boiling up on the stove, and spend tons of money on a $10 per ounce spice available only at the Ukrainian grocery in Astoria. "One Bowl" avoids all of these and also addresses many of my other concerns. The recipes usually have a finite number of easy-to-acquire and reasonably priced ingredients that, when blended together, taste really good. It gives some very basic advice on cooking techniques, nutrition and shopping, all of which came in very handy. Usually, as befits its name, the dirtied dishes are kept to a minimum, and I like how the book suggests making more than one recipe at the same time and saving something for the next day. Recipes I really like include the Tomato, Broccoli and Avocado Salad; the Microwave Burrito, the Tuna Pilaf and everything with salmon in it. I like the recipes with familiar ingredients--sweet potatoes, cabbage--that I've never known how to prepare or what to mix it with. Plus, all these recipes can be pretty easily expanded to account for two people, which I know goes against the premise of the book--but I like to be able to try something myself before I subject my boyfriend to it!
Overall, easy to read, easy to use, with bonus sections on nutrition or basics. Hooray for knowing how to prepare vegetables!

New Good Food, rev: Essential Ingredients for Cooking and Eating Well Review

Taking a quick flip through this book has one thinking that the volume is encyclopedic and loaded with good information about ingredients. Unfortunately, the depth of information is very shallow and, in some cases, of unclear value.
As background, I have a good sized bookshelf filled with cookbooks and tend to prefer those that discuss authentic ingredients and techniques over the "quick and easy" type. If I'm looking for information on ethnic ingredients, the source should stand up to content in texts like "Japanese Cooking: A Simple Art" (Tsuji), "The Modern Art of Chinese Cooking" (Tropp), or "Classic Indian Cooking" (Sahni).
"New Good Food" often has little more than a paragraph of general information on each ingredient, with the focus seeming to be on why a food store like Whole Foods would select it for its claimed health benefits, rather than providing significant culinary or cultural depth.
There is some substitution information (e.g., sweeteners) and cooking information (e.g., grains and legumes), but its accessibility and depth ("Cut in half or in wedges and steam, or bake with a splash of oil, a favorite seasoning, and salt or tamari.") is not enough to make this book a "go to" for me.
Some of the discussions about what the food terms, such as "organic" and "free range" mean, might be of value to some, but that information is widely available elsewhere.
In some cases, the information is questionable. For example, the section on cooking by color identifies potatoes in the "yellow or orange" group or the "red" group according to their skin color, though the skin is generally not eaten and does not contain the carotenoids at the levels associated with eating "orange" vegetables. It further lists eggplant as a valuable "blue or purple" vegetable, though eggplant has very little value other than a little dietary starch.
"New Good Food" also falls into the trap of "natural is good" on occasion as well. After dismissing all "artificial, nonnutritive sweeteners" (which I generally would agree with), the virtues of Stevia are extolled, because it is a "natural, plant-based substance," even though the "human body can't completely metabolize [Stevia-based sweeteners]." Conium maculatum is a common herb, which produces a "natural, plant-based substance" known as "deadly hemlock." I'm not suggesting that Stevia is poisonous. However, I am aware that it is recommended against for people with liver conditions, probably because of the load its non-nutritive, non-metabolizable chemicals, naturally occurring or not, put on that organ.
With two vegetarians in our family, along with allergy to soy and soy products, I was hoping for a reference on some of the less common ingredients available at market today to complement my current "go to" general reference cookbooks. "New Good Food" isn't about to find a place next to, for example, Cooks Illustrated "The [New] Best Recipe" or many of the excellent CIA series, such as "Techniques of Healthy Cooking, Professional Edition"

The Everything Flat Belly Cookbook: 300 Quick and Easy Recipes to help drop the belly fat and tone your abs (Everything (Cooking)) Review

Driven by the excellent reviews and by my enjoyment of Prevention's "Flat Belly Diet" book I decided to purchase this book.
Whether it was planned to sound like the popular diet or merely a coincidence, it is important to note that this book is NOT a companion to Prevention's "Flat Belly Diet". With the title I had expected the book to tie in to Prevention's popular plan but it does not. This book makes use of artificial sugar (splenda), does not include MUFAs etc. The two books are totally unrelated. So if you are looking for a cook book for the Prevention book "Flat Belly Diet" you will want to look elsewhere.
The cookbook "The Everything Flat Belly Diet" boasts many good points. The authors open with a discussion on belly fat and share how what you eat is 80 percent responsible for your weight. They include tips on getting the most for your calorie buck and they include step by step directions for abdominal exercises - what to do and when to do them. Another nice factor in the book is the tidbits the authors add to the end of each recipe. Little tips like when to eat your largest meal, using lettuce instead of bread etc.
The authors include 300 recipes they claim will help you shed belly fat. Each recipe includes calories, fat, carbs, protein, sodium and fiber. Recipes are laid out in an easy to read fashion in the 292 page soft cover book. Chapters include; Flat Belly Philosophy, Rise and Shine, It's Breakfast Time!, Lunch Break, Snack Time and more.
The main disappointment in this book is some of the recipes. I was stunned as I read through a few of them. I like simple but these were to simple. For example;
Carrot Dippers (Carrot Sticks, Peanut Butter)
Dip carrots in peanut butter and enjoy.
Pickles in Blankets (Pickles, Fat Free Cheese)
Wrap each pickle in a cheese slice and enjoy.
Peanut Butter Apple Slices - (Apple, Peanut Butter)
Can you guess how to make this one?
If they had just been listed as snack suggestions it would have been fine but each of the above recipes and more like them were given there own separate page in the book. Some of the recipes were just plain disappointing. The Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe for example involves mixing a prepared cookie mix with egg beaters and syrup. Cheesy fries has you baking prepared frozen french fries and sprinkling on cheese.
In fairness to the author there are some great dishes with simple preparation. If you are not fond of cooking but want to eat low fat this book may be a good choice for you. Sample recipes include; Steak and Caesar Salad, Cannellini Minestrone and Coq au Vin. If you like to cook, this book is most likely to simplistic for you.
The second disappointment is the book lacks photographs. Mouth watering photos do a lot to help me want to prepare a dish. And this book has none.
Personally I find that including healthy fats in my diet is a good thing and I am following a higher fat program which works much better for me. However,
if you want very simple to make low fat recipes with some tips for a flat belly included this may be the right cookbook for you. If you are looking for a companion to Prevention's "Flat Belly Diet", enjoy cooking and/or don't want to use Splenda select a different book.
Bon Apetit!
~ Lee Mellott

Color Me Vegan: Maximize Your Nutrient Intake and Optimize Your Health by Eating Antioxidant-Rich, Fiber-Packed, Color-Intense Meals That Taste Great Review

I received my copy of "Color me vegan" in the mail yesterday and I couldn't wait to start cooking. I think I read every single recipe and I was excited to see that they were original and covered a very wide range of produce. I was wondering how Colleen was going to manage writing recipes for starters, soups, main courses, side dishes and desserts of every color. Well, she did. From then creamy avocado mousse (delicious green recipe) to the red chard pie (red recipe, of course) , this book is chock full of tips, nutritional information, variations, and even some food history.
I like the fact that you don't have to constraint yourself to the ingredients listed in the recipe. The book packs some much information that you can make your own choices about how you would like your recipe to look and taste like. I recommend that you read the entire recipe, as well as the notes on the top and bottom before you start cooking. The book itself is very easy to read, it has clear instructions and doesn't call for too many ingredients like other books do. The ingredients are easy to find if they aren't in your pantry already. There isn't a picture for every single recipe, but the pictures in the book are really beautiful. They make you want to cook.
If you are new to veganism, this is a good way to start cooking new food. After testing some of this recipes, you will realize that vegan food is not "rabbit food" or bland food. Rather, it is healthful and delicious.Last night I made a pie, a dessert and a vegan cheese. Everything was yummy!

Slim Smoothies: Over 130 Healthy and Energizing Recipes Without All the Calories Review

This book is great for someone like me who loves smoothies but hates calories. The recipes are divided into those that are low cal (below 350) and others that are ultra low cal (below 250). I even found some that are down in the 160's. I have a previous smoothie book by the same author that is very good, but I was attracted to this book by an article about it in Shape Magazine, and I haven't been disappointed. The recipes are tasty and I feel like I'm doing something good for myself. Highly recommended!

I have 2 shelves of cookbooks and this one is the one I turn to most often. The recipes here are clean enough that they work with my somehat capricious-seeming system, and my husband loves the food, too. Mary and Chris's book has lots of fairly easy, very tasty main dishes. For me, having had to move to a fairly focused diet centered on vegetables and light meats, this book provides diversity and fun!

The Good Carb Cookbook: Secrets of Eating Low on the Glycemic Index Review

I cannot say enough good things about this book. I wish I could give a copy to everyone I know. Not only are the recipes the most delicious healthy foods we've ever made, but Sandra Woodruff explains the nutritional and health reasons for eating good carbs in simple, easy-to-understand language. She emphasizes moderation. Her recipes are followed by nutritional information, including whether they are extremely low GI, low GI, or moderate GI.
The first third of the book is all information you need to know about why traditional fat-free eating isn't making people thinner or healthier, but fatter and unhealthier. For the past 20 years, the food industry has been touting fat-free this and fat-free that..."eat pretzels, gummi bears, eat fat-free, and you'll be fat-free". It's nonsense.
Woodruff explains how and why to eat low on the Glycemic Index. She gives you tons of ideas for low GI breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. She includes low GI options for eating out at nearly every possible type of restaurant- Italian, Indian, Thai- you name it. She also gives a few examples of real people, their situations, and how they changed their health by eating low GI. Not only does this book give you sound nutritional advice (the author is a Registered Dietician), but she also includes over 200 phenomenally delicious recipes.
Eat wholesome real foods, watch what kinds of fats you cook with, exercise, and you will lose weight. Most importantly, though- YOUR BODY WILL LOVE YOU. And your doctor will be thrilled! My husband, who was already exercising regularly, has lost 20 lbs in 6 weeks just by changing to eating low on the Glycemic Index- "Good Carbs". I have also lost 20 pounds in 6 weeks by changing my diet and including exercise. Changing our diet has giving us so much more energy. We feel fantastic.
Do yourself a favor and pick up this book! I researched all the low-carb, no-carb, low-sugar, Zone, Busters, etc... books ... and decided after reading all the information and reviews, to purchase this one. I am so glad I did! You will be too. You owe yourself an energetic, long life. BUY THIS BOOK.

The Health-Promoting Cookbook: Simple, Guilt-Free, Vegetarian Recipes Review

Wow! This was exactly what I was looking for. I read Eat To Live by Joel Fuhrman and was looking for a true vegen cookbook with recipes that you could like.
It has things in there like vegetarian meat loaf, meatless chili, veggie burgers, lasagna, cheesless enchiladas, soups, rice flour muffins, pie, oat flour oatmeal cookies, falafel, dressings, sauces, wheat-free bars, beans, stuffed peppers, potato salad, and even cookies... plus lots more.
And no meat, dairy, eggs with very little (if any) sugar (uses fruit) or grains.
There's a recipe planner where basically if you eat meals from this cookbook, you are going to lose weight and get some extreme nutrition all with familiar recipes.
I've never eaten like this before so this is a first and I'm new at it. It's working for us, though and I can tell a big difference. Plus I eat until I'm full and have lost 15 pounds this first week (maybe some of that was water?).
Anyway... I LOVE this cookbook and it's definately organized and the meals are easy to make - as long as you have a food processor. I wish they had a hard cover version.

The Paleo Diet Cookbook: More than 150 recipes for Paleo Breakfasts, Lunches, Dinners, Snacks, and Beverages Review

What a disappointment. I've never returned a book before now, but honestly, this one was a dust collector right off the bat. Baked apples? Seriously? I don't know many people who don't know how to put some cinnamom and nutmeg on an apple and put it in the oven. I need a recipe book for that? Maybe it's because of the incredibly strict rules that Cordain follows. Get off grains? Oh yes. Loose the sugar? Absolutely. Avoid soy, corn and other processed oils at all costs? Too right. Toss the processed food? You bet. Try to find grass fed, pastured, free range and organic? I'm with you. But if you then remove all dairy (cheese, butter, cream) and go low fat (why you would do this I have no idea), it's pretty darn hard to create a dessert.
Here's my take on paleo eating in a nutshell (it'll save you the price of a cookbook): Cook some grass fed, free range or pastured meat or wild fish (the size of your palm is about right), put it on your plate and fill the rest of the plate up with organic veggies and salad (raw is always good). Snack on nuts. Easy on the fruit (berries are the best!) and heavy on the veggies. Stay far, far away from sugar, grains, beans, soy, processed stuff and food covered in chemicals. Don't eat animals that were fed these things, either. Dairy? Some say no, some say okay. Honey? Same thing.

Want to approximate your old favorites? Cauliflower is life's wonder food: use it in place of rice or potatoes. Spaghetti squash is pasta, as is zucchini. Cabbage can be lasagna noodles. Romain lettuce leaves = wraps for just about anything you could put in a sandwich. Turnip and rutabagas do just about anything potatoes can do. High heat frying can be done in pork fat, beef tallow or (to some extent) coconut oil.
Want to make desserts? Bake with almond meal and coconut flour. Use stevia or xylitol to sweeten (both are natural sweeteners). Use coconut oil, butter and olive oil. Eggs and cream help a lot. Organic feta and cream cheese can be found. That's if you eat dairy. If not, you can still do some baking with coconut oil and eggs. You can make SUPERB ice cream with premium coconut milk (the high fat stuff), stevia, eggs and some melted Lindt 99% chocolate. No sugar, no dairy, total paleo, and you won't believe your taste buds.
Anyway, this book offered nothing new, and certainly nothing worth writing (or reading) about. No pictures, no new ideas, no fun, some items really hard to find...just not much there to love.
Pick up The Primal Blueprint Cookbook if you're looking for paleo meals, or a good low carb recipe book.

Unprocessed: How to achieve vibrant health and your ideal weight. Review

Chef AJ, in her book "Unprocessed," shares nutritional advice that she has learned from experts in the field of plant-based nutrition and gives the basis for forming her own diet regime, along with explaining her diet philosophy in a readable and friendly format. AJ enthusiastically motivates the reader to go on a whole-foods, nutrient-rich, plant-based diet, with no sugar, salt, or oil. Her reasons for adopting this healthy lifestyle are personal, which she openly shares with the reader, and she is hoping to convince others to try her way of eating so that they can overcome their addictions to food, cure their chronic illnesses, and lose unwanted pounds.

Chef AJ "speaks" to the reader as a friend, giving support and understanding throughout, acknowledging that for some people the gradual approach may be best, rather than to drop all processed food at once. The "Yabbut" sections addresses people's excuses, and the resource section is helpful to those who are new to this way of eating, as well as to those who have lived a healthy lifestyle for awhile. The recipes are easy to follow, and leave room for the home cook's creativity. AJ has an informative section on what to buy in the grocery store and how to stock one's home with recommended ingredients and foods. She even addresses restaurant dining and how to eat healthfully when dining out.
Pictures in the book would have been useful, but one can search You Tube for demonstrations of Chef AJ preparing some of the recipes. Also, Chef AJ gives her e-mail address so that the reader can contact her with any questions. Chef AJ's cooking classes are another resource, are a lot of fun and are unlike other cooking classes because she mixes in humor and song-and-dance routines, emphasizing her lifestyle program, along with the food demonstrations.
Chef AJ's wittiness is scattered throughout the paperback, which makes the book a very enjoyable read. I would recommend the book to anyone wanting to improve their diet and lifestyle, as well as their health.

Dr Gillian McKeith's You Are What You Eat Cookbook: Over 150 Healthy and Delicious Recipes Review

I purchased this cook book and have been trying new recipes every week. I thought I would hate some of the recipes , like fennel, Hazelnut soup, but I loved it. I have been pleasently surprised by most of the recipes. I have substituted some items in the recipes, and they still taste very good. Ms. McKeith states in the cookbook that you have the option of adding or taking ingredients away from the recipes to suit your taste.
When you make the recipes, especially the soups, they yield a very large portion. I Make two or three soups a week, freeze them in containers and take them to work with me. I find I do not waste as much if I freeze everthing in portion size containers.
If you purchase this cookbook, a blender is necessary and a food processor is even better. The recipes are easy, but everything is made with fresh vegetables and there is A LOT of peeling and chopping..(another reason I cook on the weekends and freeze everything)
If you are American, the cookbook lists all ingrediants in grams and liters, I printed a conversion chart on the internet, so I know how many ounces are in an item. The oven temperatures are listed in celsius, but you can also print a conversion list to Farenheit. Last but not least, The British call eggplants an aubergine and a zucchine a courgette. You may have to do a search on the name of a food if it is unfamiliar to you, I laughed pretty hard when I did a search for courgettes and Zucchini was listed.
This cookbook is my refernce now, I have learned to combine foods I would never dream of combining and since I began eating her recipes at most of my meals (Not all! I still love steak once in a while) I can honestly say I feel better than I have in years... The main reason I will continue preparing her recipes is because of the huge impact it has made to my health and well being.

The World's Healthiest Foods, Essential Guide for the Healthiest Way of Eating Review

This is a truly incredible book. It is filled with TONS of nutrition information about the healthiest foods and the healthiest methods for cooking each of them. It also includes a quick-and-easy recipe for each specific food (e.g., tomatoes, cabbage, bananas), as well as a number of variations on that recipe. The recipes I have tried have all been incredibly tasty, figure-friendly, and easy to prepare. This book is large and packed with more information than you will ever be able to absorb. If you could only purchase one cookbook, this is the one I would recommend (and I own hundreds!). 5 stars.

The Volumetrics Eating Plan: Techniques and Recipes for Feeling Full on Fewer Calories Review

I began following Volumetrics in April, 2001. Four years later, I have lost 220 pounds! The Volumetrics Weight-Control Plan gave me everything I needed to overcome obesity: a comprehensive guide to good nutrition; a clear explanation of the science of satiety; and a host of delicious recipes to try. I have been able to stick with Volumetrics all this time because I don't feel hungry or deprived. In fact, I would say that by managing my hunger and helping me achieve a normal weight, Volumetrics has given me my life back.
This new Volumetrics book is a wonderful complement to the first one. It includes more detail on how to implement Volumetrics successfully, along with menu planners and beautiful color photographs of 125 new recipes. I've actually given The Volumetrics Eating Plan to several friends who don't need to lose weight but do like to cook. I only wish it had been available when I started my own Volumetrics eating plan four years ago (and I'm not just saying that because my testimonial appears on page 5!)
The reviewers who gave the book one and two stars, respectively, don't seem to understand the program. One reviewer complains that the book is "bad science based on a fear of dietary fat calories." In fact, Volumetrics recommends that 20-30% of daily calories come from fat. That's well within accepted guidelines, and ensures both good nutrition and good taste. I eat butter, eggs and cheese (in moderation), and I've lost weight steadily while feeling satisfied on Volumetrics.
A second reviewer complains that Volumetrics is the same as 99.99% of the diet books out there. I strongly disagree. I tried numerous diets over several decades and never understood the connection between energy density and satiety until Volumetrics explained it to me. Finding out that I could lose weight without being chronically hungry was a revelation!
I recommend Volumetrics to anyone struggling with obesity. (...)

Hungry Girl 1-2-3: The Easiest, Most Delicious, Guilt-Free Recipes on the Planet Review

I have purchased all three of Ms. Lillien cook books. The first two are great however focus mostly on sweets. I am a 52 year old woman who is deficient in the "I must have chocolate now" chromosome so most of those chapters went untried. 1-2-3 is the best of the bunch. This book provides healthy meals. The recipes are very basic; if you can read you can cook. So far I have made the College breakfast burritto, So Fancy Fish Pack (foil section) and Jammed with Cheese Stuffed French Toast all excellent. Tonight is Chop Chop Beef Stir Fry. There has been some criticism of her use of some ingredients. This book's recipes are more "whole foods" than some of the others. If artificial sweetener, non fat cheese, egg beaters etc. are so offensive to some then substiute and make allowances for the calories. To me the whole point of Ms. Lillien's approach to cooking is just that; start cooking. Don't rely on take out, fast food or sticking some cardboard box in the microwave. It's cooking, not nuclear physics.
Normally the cute recipe names and preamble "Rat(atouille) Pack - 'too bad Frank, Dino and Sammy aren't around to try this'" would annoy me, but it is, I believe, Ms. Lillien's genuine personality. Moreover I am impressed that a young woman would even know who the hell F,D&S were.
Keep up the good work. This old broad is a fan.

The Anti-Inflammation Diet and Recipe Book: Protect Yourself and Your Family from Heart Disease, Arthritis, Diabetes, Allergies - and More Review

If you're looking for a good book on eating an anti-inflammation diet, this would be a good pick. I knew basically nothing about anti-inflammation food until I read it. You can roughly split the book in two parts. The first one explains how an anti-inflamation diet works.
The second part? Well, let me put it like this. The book is about 240 pages long- and the recipes start on page 55 and go to page 225- so just know that the vast majority of this book is a lot of recipe suggestions. Don't get me wrong- I consider this to be a big plus. Another good thing is that it gives you eating plans for both the winter and summer months- which helps a lot when you're trying to stick with the diet.
So if you want to learn more about eating an anti-inflammation diet, this bookwill certainly help you out. By the end, you'll know what to eat, and what not to eat. And readers looking for more ways to help their arthritis might also want to check out Treat Your Own Knee Arthritis.

Eat to Beat High Blood Pressure Review

My wife and I have found a lot of tasty recipes from this book, even though one of us is a picky eater. We've put a lot of bookmarks in this after finding recipes we like. Instructions could be written a little clearer, but a careful read will solve that.
Recipes use commonly-available items (in the USA) and standard methods. No great skills are needed here.

The Fertile Kitchen Cookbook: Simple Recipes for Optimizing Your Fertility Review

I ate that way for years and had female issues. Lots of veggies means not enough body fat to sustain a pregnancy (on the chart, my BMI was normal, but I have more muscle, therefore less body fat). When a doctor recommended more meat and more dairy for the extra protein to help another condition, I gained weight (enough to push my BMI above normal range, but still OK because of the extra muscle mass) and my female issues resolved. So this diet may NOT help every woman.

Simply Natural Baby Food: Easy Recipes for Delicious Meals Your Infant and Toddler Will Love Review

I love this little book. I know a past reviewer criticised the book for being too thin but that's one of the things I like about it. I have always enjoyed cooking and bought quite a few baby cook books when my daughter was very young thinking I would potter around making her perfect gourmet meals but soon realised that there are many days when the thought of even leafing through the pages of those cookbooks is too much effort. I just find them too overwhelming and invariably reach for this book because the recipes are simple but still tasty. You don't need to be a great cook to be able to make these recipes, the instructions are very easy to follow.
Despite being a slender volume, the book packs a lot of information into its pages, and still has a great collection of recipes.

I never found it to be a problem finding any of the ingredients. I have to admit that even though I consider my cooking to be quite wholesome I had never used some of the items like dried seaweed (you only use a pinch) and ground seeds myself, but after reading in the book just why these things are included, I found myself adding them to my own food as well. They are incredibly nutritious and such an easy way to bolster your child's immune system which I found so reassuring during the winter. I'm sure you can order these ingredients online if you can't find them in a store nearby. You use such a small amount that they will last for ages. And you can always leave those items out if you prefer.
The book is written in a very friendly manner and is a nice balance between educating and guiding you as to what your baby's and toddler's developmental needs are with easy to follow recipes. A reviewer below wrote that the last thing they needed was to be making their own baby cereal. Well I guess if that's your mindset then this book isn't for you because honestly it takes all of two seconds to make the cereal, and the jar lasts a very long time when you are using a couple of tablespoons at a time! Not that you can't find good organic packaged baby cereal, (I did try that myself but my baby would never eat it). And there's nothing stopping you from using the recipes as guides and substituting purchased products for some ingredients if it makes life easier.
The book takes you right through to when your child is a toddler with tips that help you sneak vegetables into their diet and great snack ideas too. There are some lovely recipes for cookies and cakes as well, which is nice, it's very realistic in that although you want to feel that you are presenting your child with yummy healthy food, there's always a place for sweet treats in life. I'm not personally a fan of soy products which some of the recipes call for, but I just substitute the tofu or whatever with chicken, lamb or fish.
I went online to check out the authors website and was happy to see that the adorable little girls on the website who I assume are the author's daughters look like very happy and healthy children. They are a great advertisement for the book.

Low-Fat-Low Calorie Quick & Easy Cookbook (Cooking Light) Review

I plan my weekly menus from this book every Sunday morning. There is something in there for every day of the week.... chicken, beef, pork, seafood and even pasta..... all low fat and low calorie. The recipes are so easy and the ingredients are typically your normal kitchen staples with an occassional item added to the normal shopping list.
There's nothing like getting home after a long day at work and still having to make dinner. That's where the Quick & Easy part comes in. These recipes make getting dinner on the table a snap. Usually with-in 30 minutes or less.
You can't go wrong with this book. Every recipe is easy to follow and tasts great. We haven't made 1 thing in the past 4 months that we did not enjoy and we cook from these cookbooks everyday. I had several other cookbooks where I had written on pages "YUCK!" or "NO GOOD" when I've tried a recipe and didn't like it. Not one of the Cooking Light recipes have I done this to. I've since thrown away all the cookbooks I had that are not Cooking Light.
I own 17 other Cooking Light cookbooks, some have easier recipes than others, but this one is my favorite. The taste of the meal is as if you had ordered it from a very good restaurant. My husband and I recently went on a cruise and he said "I like your cooking from those cookbooks better than the cruise food". What more can I say? Buy it, you'll love the way you look and feel. Slimmer and healthier.
