The first few chapters of this book are dedicated to the benefits of juicing, how to juice individual fruits and vegetables and what their specific benefits and nutrional information is and gives suggestions based on lifestyle needs. The second section of this book is filled with recipes for juicing. These juices cover breakfast, lunch, dinner, entertaining for guests and dessert. I was very surprised that I enjoyed as many of the combinations as I did. Who knew that red pepper juice would be almost sweet enough for dessert?
The wonderful thing about this book is the author's emphasis on using the "pulp" left by the fruits and vegetables to minimize waste, to get the most out of your money and to get the necessary and vital fiber that our bodies need. Carrot pulp should be saved and used to make carrot cake, zucchini pulp for zucchini bread, pineapple or apricot pulp retained for creating the freshest of fresh preserves to serve as toppings for toast, muffins or pancakes.
The author also encourages experimentation and offers a few suggestions in branching out to exotic fruits and vegetables, like those found in Asian or specialty markets.
Overall, this is a very down-to-earth, easy to read and follow guide for anyone that's interested in introducing the yummy and healthy benefits of juicing into their lives.

"Get it Ripe" is a unique vegan recipe book that also includes comprehensive and accurate information on food.
The first 100 pages of the book offer truly useful and understandable information. Jae's friendly dialect is warm, supportive, and non-judgemental. Most of the other nutrition books I've read have been aggressively coercive (and are either frustratingly vague or overwhelmingly specific and technical). "Get it Ripe" is uniquely easy to read and understand.
By the time you finish reading the first part of the book, you'll have a solid understanding of the effects different foods have on the human body. The next 20 or so pages discuss appropriate kitchen appliances and pantry necessities. The next 10-ish pages address the preparation of grains and legumes, complete with color photos of each type of grain and legume. The next 5 pages offer great information on baking with whole grains, including a list of alternate flours (brown rice flour, etc.) and their nutritional and baking benefits.
And then, the recipes! This section is a good 140 pages, divided into Drinks (11 recipes)
Breakfasts (15 recipes)
Muffins/Biscuits/Quickbreads (12 recipes)
Dips and Spreads (8 recipes)
Salads and Dressings (13 recipes)
Sauces/Gravies/Marinades (10 recipes)
Soups (15 recipes)
Main Dish Bowls/Additional Entrees (18 recipes)
Cakes/Pies/Crumbles (14 recipes)
Cookies/Puddings/Other Sweet Treats (26 recipes)
The full-page color photos are (of course!) mouth-watering. The recipes are oh so easy to follow, and most are incredibly simple (e.g. 10 easy-to-find ingredients, 5 steps). Jae does a wonderful job of creating gourmet flavors with healthful ingredients and minimal preparation. I myself am eager to try the Portobello Burgers with Sunchoke Oven Fries (10 ingredients, 6 steps).
"Get it Ripe" sums up with a few pages on detoxification, and 16 fabulous menu ideas. There's also a comprehensive resource list and index.
"Get it Ripe" is one of the best cookbook/nutrition books I have ever bought! And given the size of my kitchen bookshelf, that's saying a lot! Although I just recently got it, I expect "Get it Ripe" to be one the most used cookbooks in my collection! Thank you Jae!

Power Juices Super Drinks is a wonderful book, full of useful information that is well- presented and easy to access. It is an inspiring treasure of information on healing foods and herbs, and their benefits for treating and preventing diseases.
The material is presented clearly, with lightness and humor, which Steve Meyerwitz is known for! A major part of the book presents drinks, which may be teas, smoothies, citrus juices or other kinds of vegetable or fruit juices, for specific conditions. There are chapters on power drinks for the physical body, for the mind, and for longevity. The longest chapter, called "Power drinks - Medicine Chest", details nutritional therapies and recipes for 115 different health disorders.
A tremendous resource on high power foods and herbs, is the chapter titled, "Nature's Finest Healing Foods and Herbs". It is this chapter which inspired me to start growing and eating broccoli sprouts, which contain fantastic amounts of valuable phytochemicals (plant derived substances). One type of phytochemicals is glucosinolates; Enzymes in the body convert these chemicals to isothiocyanates. One isothiocyanate, sulforaphane, is the strongest natural inducer of our body's own protective enzymes against carcinogens. These substances have been shown to reduce the incidence, rate of development, and the size of tumors. Broccoli sprouts contain 20 to 50 times more sulforaphane than the average adult broccoli plant! In three days you can raise a crop of broccoli sprouts containing as much sulforaphane as an acre of broccoli would yield in a year! This chapter is a complete pharmacopoeia of common foods and herbs, full of illuminating information.
Another very worthwhile chapter is titled, "Nutrient Sources". This chapter lists vitamins, minerals, and enzymes, and provides food sources that are loaded with them. Good sources of calories, carbohydrates, fats and protein are also listed.
People of all nutritional persuasions will appreciate this book. It can provide tasty new healthy drinks and teas for those just starting their journey towards natural healing. For the already enthusiastic, it can educate and deepen their understanding of many high-powered health foods.
