My wife and I have been on the Weight Watchers 1-2-3 Success program for 5 months (with great results) and have found this book to be a Godsend. It is chock full of delicious recipes that are easy to make, healthy, and delicious. Among my favorites are the "One Dish Turkey with Stuffing"; "Glazed Carrots"; "Twice Baked Potatos"; "Apple Cake"; and "Pasta with Seafood in Lemon Dill Sauce". We will be cooking these recipes long after we are done losing weight. We have lost count of how many of the recipes we have tried, and I think there is only one we wouldn't cook again. This easily can become the most used cookbook in your home, even if you aren't trying to lose weight.

I have purchased all three of Ms. Lillien cook books. The first two are great however focus mostly on sweets. I am a 52 year old woman who is deficient in the "I must have chocolate now" chromosome so most of those chapters went untried. 1-2-3 is the best of the bunch. This book provides healthy meals. The recipes are very basic; if you can read you can cook. So far I have made the College breakfast burritto, So Fancy Fish Pack (foil section) and Jammed with Cheese Stuffed French Toast all excellent. Tonight is Chop Chop Beef Stir Fry. There has been some criticism of her use of some ingredients. This book's recipes are more "whole foods" than some of the others. If artificial sweetener, non fat cheese, egg beaters etc. are so offensive to some then substiute and make allowances for the calories. To me the whole point of Ms. Lillien's approach to cooking is just that; start cooking. Don't rely on take out, fast food or sticking some cardboard box in the microwave. It's cooking, not nuclear physics.
Normally the cute recipe names and preamble "Rat(atouille) Pack - 'too bad Frank, Dino and Sammy aren't around to try this'" would annoy me, but it is, I believe, Ms. Lillien's genuine personality. Moreover I am impressed that a young woman would even know who the hell F,D&S were.
Keep up the good work. This old broad is a fan.

This may be the best book published under the Weight Watchers' umbrella. It is a wonderful collection of favorite recipes from eight culinary genres. Chinese, Mexican, Indian, Thai, Italian, Greek, Japanese and Deli cuisine is featured. I love food (that's my problem) and delights such as General Tso's Chicken, Chicken Saltimbocca, Spanakopita, Shrimp Pad Thai and Moo Goo Gai Pan are now healthy, tasty and guiltless. You will not believe that these recipes are all 8 points or less. What is even more remarkable is that the family or guests will not suspect that these recipes came from Weight Watchers. This is a great leap forward for Weight Watchers as it makes the most popular restaurant meals not only available in your home, but healthy and delicious.
The book, unlike some earlier Weight Watchers' cookbooks, is very well laid out. The chapters are color coded and the index is arranged by cooking cuisine, with the recipes listed alphabetically. There are many beautiful illustrations as well. Many of the recipes come with a box called Clever Cook's Tips that give the user some useful suggestions, techniques and recipe substitutions.
You don't have to be a Weight Watchers' client to appreciate this book. The recipes are just good, dieting or not! Buy this one...you won't be disappointed.

Great recipes with a lot of variety. Good pictures for those who need to "eat with their eyes". Unfortunately this was published before the point system was instituted so points are not included in the nutritional info. That is the biggest drawback to an otherwise timeless, well written book.

I first started Weight Watchers in 1994. I purchased the Weight Watchers Favorite Homestyle Recipes to get some good recipe ideas to use while following the program. I love this book. Every recipe my husband and I tried we loved. Try the Fantastic Fusilli and Feta, or the Garden Pasta Pie. They are both great for entertaining. The Tofu Tortilla Casserole is fabulous. My daughter loved the Vegetarian Delight. I have used these recipes for potlucks at work, as well as entertaining at home. I am purchasing my second book, because I loaned my first copy out so many times that I lost track of it. I highly recommend this book.

- Most of the meals I cook are solo meals. The recipes in this book are mainly geared for four, but they're easily broken down.
- I'm a fish-eating vegetarian. Despite my diet, I found many useful recipes. Also, many of the meat & poultry dishes can easily be converted.
- I'm not, nor have I ever been, a Weight Watchers follower. I have, however, been morbidly obese (aka REALLY FAT). I lost over 115 lb & have kept it off for over 4 years. No medical aids, fad diets... just water, "diet" & exercise (I'm too passionate to elaborate. I'd write a book if I tried. Just know that you CAN lose weight, as long as you aren't in a rush (the turtle won the race!) Make slow changes & you'll succeed. Time is key). ...Getting back on my original track... I look for books that include nutritional breakdowns of their recipes. This book does that.
What compelled me to add my two cents was my success with their pizza dough recipe. Personally, I have the hardest time with bread (and bread-like) recipes. This one worked to perfection. Though it is simple & requires few ingredients, it is still pretty involved, but it's 100% worth it. Plus, the nutritional numbers for it are very good. It makes 4 freezable servings so I can use one & freeze the other 3. In the end, I not only had a (cheap) wonderful, perfectly sized meal, I was also exhilarated by having made it myself.
Additionally, on the book as a whole, the photos are quite nice & the instructions are very good, & generally easy. Plus, they throw in a lot of interesting info regarding the recipes, ingredients, regions....
At the price Amazon has it at, this book is MORE than worth it! Recipes range from Italian, Asian, Lebanese, Southern, New England... you really can't go wrong, whatever your skill and/or flavor. And all the recipes are good for you! What more is there?

The recipes in this book are laid out in a month to month menu guide manner. They have taken into consideration what fresh produce is available each season and what type of foods are popular as well. For instance, in the winter months we eat more stews and casseroles, in the summer we tend to eat lighter, cooler meals. This alone makes this cookbook unique and worth adding to your collection. Since it was written before the trend towards fat free foods, we can now modifiy the recipes to reduce fat and calories even more than Weight Watchers did. This is a definited bonus, all the flavor and without fat and high calories. The only drawback to the book is Weight Watcher's tendency to use spices or other ingredients that you do not normally stock in your pantry. So some of the recipes take a little more preparation and cost, but they are well worth the effort.

Six O'Clock Solutions has wonderful recipes. I've tried the Open-Faced Vegetable Melt, Vegetarian Pizza, Chunky Vegetable Soup and the Pound Cake Recipe. They all were delicious and easy. This is a very good buy through Amazon.

Before I purchased this book, I was so excited from all the reviews, only come to find out that 90% of the recipes in the book call for some sugar substitute of some kind, which gives me headaches. So if you are thinking of buying this book but don't enjoy artificial sweeteners, DON'T BUY IT. But, if you don't mind them, go for it.

First, I do enjoy this cookbook. Everything I have made from it has been wonderful, and if you like the recipes in "Simply the Best: 250 Prizewinning Family Recipes" then I think you will like the recipes in this book. They are slightly more gourmet and less homey than the recipes in "Simply the Best," so if "Simply the Best" was pushing the edge of the exotic envelope for you, then you might prefer a different WW cookbook than this one for your next purchase.
The book is organized into three color-coded sections (15 minute, 20 minute, and 30 minutes) and each section is organized into breakfast, lunch, and dinner recipes. Many of the lunch recipes would also work well for dinner or as part of dinner. This is the sort of cookbook that you will enjoy sitting down with and sticking post-it notes to promising recipes.
However, I give this book 4 stars instead of 5 because the preparation times for the recipes are frequently deceptive. They are not the times for fixing these recipes from start to finish, they assume that you have already performed your preps. So, a 30 minute recipe might not include the time for pulling all of the ingredients out of the pantry and refrigerator, and tasks such as slicing raw chicken breasts or steak into strips, chopping onions, mincing garlic, chopping parsley, or peeling, deseeding, and slicing cucumbers. The cookbook "Desperation Dinners" by Beverly Mills and Alicia Ross (not a lowfat cookbook), for example, is truly a 20 minute start-to-finish recipe cookbook; this one is not, although in most cases the actual time will not be too much more than the stated time. One exception is the Apricot Glazed Pork Skewers with Mango Quinoa, which is supposed to be ready in 30 minutes. Even if your preps are all ready ahead of time I think you'd be hard-pressed to prepare this dish in under 45 minutes. The 30 minutes includes thinly slicing 1-1/2 pounds of pork tenderloin and threading it onto 12 skewers, which alone took me a good 15 minutes.
One thing I like about this cookbook is that it finally got me to try cooking with Fat-Free Half-and-Half, and I have been very pleased with the recipes that use this, such as a Creamy Cauliflower Soup (saute leeks in a little olive oil, add frozen cauliflower and canned chicken broth, simmer, puree, then finish with FF Half-and-Half, nutmeg, and S&P). My favorites recipes in this book, so far, are the Banana Chocolate Chip Pancakes, Greek Chicken Pasta Toss, Chicken with Spicy Marmalade Glaze, Chicken Tacos with Salsa Verde Cream, and Sesame Glazed Shrimp with Snow Peas and Baby Corn.

Weight Watcher's SIMPLY LIGHT COOKING is designed to reduce to fat and calories content from standard recipes, but still retain the flavor we've enjoyed for so long.
I've tried some of the recipes and found them adequate. My only real problem with the book is the lack of illustrations. I'd rather see smaller pictures and more of them than large full page spreads.
Good book to have around in today's light eating world.

I've been using Weight Watchers cookbooks for at least 20 years. While the older cookbooks were kind of hit or miss, I must say that in the last few years the cookbooks have improved to the point that everything I've tried has been a hit.
This one is really a winner! The Sweet and Sour Pork, while not a traditional sweet and sour recipe (it's sweet but doesn't contain any "sour," such a vinegar or lemon juice), is very flavorful and a real favorite in our house.
Everything I've tried so far has turned out great and, as billed, is quick and easy to make. It's so great to have a repertoire of recipes that you can make at the last minute on your busiest days.
My husband doesn't even realize he's eating Weight Watchers recipes! They are that good.

I got this cookbook-and complete program guide, when it was pubished, way back in the 90's. Like most dieters, I went on and off. Now I have reached a critical level, and I HAVE to do it right, Keep going, or possibly face major complications.
I am VERY disgusted with the way WW has changed their program over the years. Since it was based on the diabetic exchange program, and I am now a diabetic, it still fits with my life style.
This diet is the safetest out there. You follow it, you get results.
I can't say I am following it to the letter, but for somebody who has been into insanity on portions, fat, and sugar content for a very very long time-It's a darn good start, and a form of reference.
After you learn the program, you can then adapt mamy of the things you have been eating to this way of eating. It's very simple to follow and understand. The key is honesty.
Great, dependable food scales are available on amazon, as well on cooks websites, so the glorified postagbe scales we started with in the 70's, are no longer the only way to go to remain
legal.
I wouldn't trade this way of doing food right for anything. And when WW goes back to sanity, then we'll talk about my joining again. As for now, I still have this book, and I am buying a couple of copies. It's my life!!!

The Ultimate Low-Calorie Book starts out with info on healthy eating basics, such as charts for portion sizes and smart substitutions like using hummus instead of mayo on your sandwich, plus it has a guide to selecting and storing produce and more. It was interesting and helped me learn more about nutrition and how to eat well. I'm a big label reader, so I also liked the tabs for recipes that are 30 minutes or less, have five grams of fiber or more, and which were low sodium.
The Slow Cooker area had lots of do-it-ahead meals like In Your Sleep Chili, which has only five ingredients in it and then you can add your fave toppings and the Miraculous Makeover section had yummy ideas like the Coconut Shrimp with Mango Rice Pilaf, my kind of dinner!
